Technical apparel made from biomaterials and leftover inventory
After visiting the factory of outdoor technical garment producer KTC and witnessing the amount of leftover fabrics generated by the manufacturing process, London-based designer Alexander Taylor created the online platform ATID. Technical apparel made from biomaterials such as AlgiKnit composed out of yarns and fibers of macroalgae and waste materials from leftover fabrics and unsold clothing will be exclusive sold on this website.
Working with these sustainable and regenerated materials diminish drastically the need to create new materials, resulting in more product centered and sustainable manufacturing processes. Ranging from lightweight shorts to long-sleeved tops, one of the key items of this collection is the three-layer waterproof, seam-taped mac, parka jacket. The collection is completed with bags made using heat-bonded frames fused to lightweight ripstop textiles.
Wanting to break with the non-sustainable and wasteful season driven production process of the fashion industry, products will be manufactured when time slots open up in the KTC factory. Designed in London and manufactured in the KTC partner factory based in China, the ultimate goal is to have the products pre-ordered and shipped directly from the factory to the consumers. The online platform wants to encourage consumers to make conscious choices when shopping online and at the same time offering a space for the research and development of new sustainable materials.
