Handmade lamps honoring tradition and embracing innovation
Budiman Ong is the creator of Bali-based design studio Ong Cen Kuang and winner of the design anthology award of 2019 with his handmade pendant called Kelopak.
All the lighting fixtures are handcrafted and made out of unique materials. Ong’s Asian heritage is his source of inspiration which he combines with innovative design knowledge.
The Awan pendant is part of the Rajut collection that is inspired by a traditional Sumbanese hand knitting technique using metal. This is a technique rooted in Sumanese wedding ceremonies to make traditional accessories.
Concentrating on materials, which for the designer is the essential part, makes it possible to create classic seasonless pieces merging traditional craft with modern elements.
