Expressive Objects Inspired by Nature
Copenhagen-based ceramist Turi Heisselberg Pedersen’s latest collection is inspired by the connection between culture and nature. Surfaces are influenced by colors in nature, patterns, landscapes, plants, geology and natural shapes find in the outdoors.
Her collection of faceted shapes ranging from organic flowing forms to edged shapes, are expressive objects mimicking crystal formations growing in irregular and unexpected clusters. The pieces are aiming to be an emotional perception and visual reading of natural processes with rhythm, volume, movement and texture.
The stoneware glazed objects are modeled by hand with slip-gaze, resulting in a high textural stone-like dry surface. The expressive surfaces have a relief or have fluted structures reflecting the typical character and textual freshness of the clay.
The new pieces were exhibited at Puls Contemporary Ceramics in Brussels and the J. Lohmann Gallery in New York.
